Rough Draft

For one hundred and eighty days of the year, students are required to attend school. There are those students who were born and raised in the United States so their primary language in English. Even though you are born in the United States many students aren’t up to standard requirements when it comes to grammar and spelling. We also have those students who come from a different country and all kids are required to attend school so those things trouble a bit more in school because English isn’t their first language.

When I was younger I would have jumped around from school to school for different reasons. From Kindergarten to eighth grade I attended 4 different schools. No matter what the reason was attending different schools delayed my studies and put me behind the other students. From Kindergarten to second grade I attended a public but for my third grade year I attend a catholic school and that was where I was put behind other students. The catholic I attend was Our Lady Queen of Matyr. In Our Lady Queen of Matyr, the lessons were directly from the book.  There was no opportunity to discuss anything else.  Also, there were no resources to help those struggling students.   The school mostly caters to the higher-level students and the strugglers continue to struggle.   In addition, the school focuses on giving homework to compensate for the work that was not done in the class.

When I transferred to another school and I was tested for my reading level I noticed that I wasn’t on my grade level.  Everyone in my class was about an S or T in reading level and I was a G. So I was thirteen reading levels behind the rest of my classmates. This meant that when it came to writing assignments I wasn’t grammatically where I need to be.  Spelling was always a problem for me also because of course if I wasn’t able to read at my grade level I would be able to write how I was supposed to. I had to rely on technology, for instance, I would use spell check a lot because when I would type out my essays and I would go to proof my work I would always see the green and red lines here and there meaning I had many mistakes.

Even though I struggled to read and write over the years I was able to work on my struggles and catch up with the rest of my classmates. Even though I was caught up with the rest of my class I still would have always used different applications on my computer to my writing. I did not only use technology for English thought but also for other subjects. There was different websites that I used for school purpose. One website that I used to help me with my studies was something called Quizlet which was introduced to me in the eight grade.

Even though I had my struggles in school I was still able to get over it and find myself now in college. High school was a bit easier for me thanks to technology though. Technology helped me with research I needed to do for a certain class and also technology was able to correct my work. For instance when I went to write out my college essay I saw that my writing sounded like a typical high school. I used technology to help me add stronger words into my writing, fix my grammar, and after hard work it was finally able to be submitted to schools.
