Edward Sapir on Differences in Language

Language is like a human being walking, talking, sleeping and breathing. It contains a specific amount of details that even one word said, can become a long term or short-term step to a new beginning. Overall, that’s not the point, In Edward Sapir on differences in language and culture, it doesn’t just talk about the points and facts regarding language and culture, but it mainly talks about life in general. If one thinks about it, one simple action that is done or has been said could change everything in its path. That’s what makes a speech. One’s newborn life, with ones new ideals of life. So yes, language and culture are different but that doesn’t make them any less different than one another. They’re different because they have different concept but the same meaning.

English Belongs to Everyone McNeil

In the article English belongs to everybody written by Robert MacNeil he talks about how in our world today English is involving and there are currently different ways people speak among one another. There isn’t one proper way of speaking English. Every day a new slang or word is created and many people wouldn’t even know.  As people mature so does their vocabulary.  As the English langue evolves people tend to forget the quote on quote English of the past. So the next generation would change the English and we might not understand it.

The Horse the Wheel and Language

In the chapter “The promise and Politics of the Mother Tongue” by Anthony, he talks about how our ancestor’s language has impacted our daily lives. The author explained how the ancestors and the languages they spoke was never going to correlate, knowing that our ancestors have never spoken English. Within the story he connects our ancestors, ‘the Proto-Indo-European’ language by having an analogy to explain why the language was so important. The language was so important because, without connection, there would be no fair trade inland. That would just start a commotion and most likely start a war. If it wasn’t just the language and no communication, then that would’ve meant having a situation with other countries about race and color. This story “The Horse, The Wheel, and Language” shows a cycle of life and how all of our lives began. It has a divine connection.

Coming to Awareness of Language

In “Coming To An Awareness Of Language”, by Malcolm X he explained that no matter how many times a person witnesses the depts of hell, one can always fight to get to the top by bringing awareness to themselves and to the people. Meanwhile, X was living a very tarnished life, he still pushed through his very limits towards his goal. One way a person can think about his life is that no matter the income there is always an outcome. At one point Malcolm wanted to become a lawyer but things didn’t work out too well. He went through hard times, where he had to hustle in the streets “He was convicted of burglary” and his father was killed by white supremacists. When he was in prison a lot of things went through his mind. Was being a lawyer really in the picture now? No. All he could’ve thought about was the unfairness of life and the way people lived in it as if nothing ever happened. That was why we had Malcolm X stand up for people who couldn’t speak for themselves.

Brown “Ableism/language”

The author, Brown presents the thought of ableism and why it’s significant to know about. “Ableism/language” are different terms that have a negative effect on a certain group of people. Brown goes on to list a couple of words that certain people might offensive. In today’s world, people might use words that they believe aren’t offensive but other people might take it the wrong way.
